Jon Erikson - deepest condolences

Monday, 28 July 2014

Jon EriksonIt is with the deepest sadness that the Channel Swimming Association has learned of the death today, 28th July, of Jon Erikson. He was 59 years of age.

Jon followed in his father’s giant footsteps. In 1965 Ted became only the second person ever to swim the English Channel 2 ways non stop. In 1969 Jon, only 14 years of age did his first solo in 11 hours 22 minutes, in 1975 he completed the double becoming only the 4th person to complete it, finishing in exactly 30 hours and beating his father’s record time by 3 minutes. In 1981 Jon made history by becoming the first person ever to complete a 3 way swim, his time 38 hours 27 minutes.

Jon had the honour of being inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in June this year, the President of the Channel Swimming Association being given the privilege of inducting him. He was due to come to the UK in September to be inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.

We send our deepest condolences to his wife Debbie, his children Blade and Trent and to his father Ted.
