Swim season change

Following a meeting between the Channel Swimming Association, Channel Crossing Association, Channel Swimming Pilotage Federation, Channel Swimming & Pilotage Services and Coastguards from France and the UK it has been agreed by all that the swim season will from now on be between 1st April and 31st October each year.

This is first and foremost to protect the safety and welfare of the swimmers and support craft involved. Swims outside of this period will not be accepted on the grounds of safety.

Congratulations to the British swimmer Richard Bethune who successfully crossed the Channel yesterday (19/9) in a time of 13hrs and 45mins (unratified). He was supported by his pilot Stuart Gleeson on Sea Leopard Charter.

Richard did especially well as the Channel was covered in thick fog yesterday from the start of his swim to the finish at 19.47 last night.

Well done to Richard and to his support crew who guided him through the 'mist'!
