It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of David Mace. A great long distance competitior in the 1970-80's who tussled, usually unsuccessfully, with our President in many BLDSA events. However, he got his revenge when he made the 50th England to France crossing in 1971, and was very proud to have soundly beaten the President's time by well over one hour.
Always interested in coaching and putting things back into the sport he loved, he became the coach at Spencer Swim club in the late 1970's and can take much credit in getting them into the strond position that they are in today.
He was very ill at the end of 2008 and had recently gone into sheltered accomodation.
