Swim season change

Following a meeting between the Channel Swimming Association, Channel Crossing Association, Channel Swimming Pilotage Federation, Channel Swimming & Pilotage Services and Coastguards from France and the UK it has been agreed by all that the swim season will from now on be between 1st April and 31st October each year.

This is first and foremost to protect the safety and welfare of the swimmers and support craft involved. Swims outside of this period will not be accepted on the grounds of safety.

Fred Hammond - With Great Sadness

Posted on: 13th September 2015

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of Fred Hammond.

Fred Hammond was a Life Member of the C.S.A. He passed away on Friday morning 11 September 2015. The President and the Board of the Channel Swimming Association extends our deepest sympathy to his family.

Fred lived in Dover all his life and swam in the sea every day of the year. He trained a great many swimmers and was there with his time, help and advice for hundreds of swimmers, from the 1940’s to 2010. He accompanied swimmers on three Billy Butlin swims.

He was known and respected by Channel swimmers all over the world and he will be sadly missed by the Channel swimming fraternity.
