It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of one of our greatest Channel swimmers. Cindy made her first crossing in 1975 and by 1978 she had made 6 crossings to become the “Queen of the Channel”. She went on to make 19 crossings including an astonishing 5, 2-way swims. Her 1982 crossing in 18 hours 55 minutes set a new world record for both men and women. She held the record as “Queen of the Channel” until 1992. She was a great inspiration to all who were lucky enough to meet her and she was wonderful ambassador for our sport. Thank you Cindy for gracing our sport with your talent, you will be greatly missed.
The President, the Board and all the members of the Channel Swimming Association send their deepest condolences to her family.
