Following a meeting between the Channel Swimming Association, Channel Crossing Association, Channel Swimming Pilotage Federation, Channel Swimming & Pilotage Services and Coastguards from France and the UK it has been agreed by all that the swim season will from now on be between 1st April and 31st October each year.
This is first and foremost to protect the safety and welfare of the swimmers and support craft involved. Swims outside of this period will not be accepted on the grounds of safety.
Huge CONGRATULATIONS to 'Total Immersion in the English Channel' who attempted to set a CSA relay record today, 5th August, swimming the Channel in an amazing time of 7hrs 03mins (unratified) landing in France at 14.23hrs.
Unfortunately they did not quite beat the CSA record of 6hrs 52mins set by the US National Team in 1990.
Well done to the whole relay team and to Reg Brickell their pilot on Viking Princess!
